Lloyd visits California

We Flew out of Heathrow into Los Angeles and as we were doing a fly drive, we flew back
home from Oakland. We were extremely lucky to be upgraded to Club World with British airways,
which is their equivalent of Business class...

"This again was an amazing
experience and by now I was seeing how diverse California is and that it has so much to offer..."

We started our trip in Los Angeles where we spent the first 2 nights in West Hollywood at the
Mondrian hotel; we then travelled north of LA to Pismo beach for 1 night, staying at the Inn by the
Pier. We then travelled to San Luis Obispo for 1 night, staying at the La Cuesta Inn and finally 1
night in Santa Cruz at the beautiful Seascape Beach Resort.

Day 1

We flew from Heathrow to Los Angeles followed by dinner at the Ivory on Sunset Boulevard.

Day 2

Day one was spent touring West Hollywood and Beverly Hills on a bike, which was an
amazing experience. I loved cycling around Beverley Hills looking at all the amazing houses and
finding out which ones celebrities had lived in. We also visited downtown Hollywood and checked
out the view point over LA where we could see the Hollywood sign in the distance. We had dinner
at the Sunset Tower - at the same restaurant as Jennifer Aniston and she was literally a few tables away
from me.

Day 3

We left LA and headed North for Pismo Beach, a laid back beach resort perfect for relaxing
and enjoying beach activities. Here we did a Sunbuggy experience which was something
completely different to what I would normally choose to do - it was great fun. The evening was spent
at Tolosa Winery tasting wine and learning how wine is made, whilst the sun set. It was a perfect
experience and a total highlight of the trip for me, as I love wine.

Day 4

We had a morning at leisure to enjoy Pismo beach before heading to Firestone Walker &
Brewery tour where we learnt how beer is brewed and also got to sample some. After this
we headed to a ranch for an afternoon horseback riding. This again was an amazing
experience and by now I was seeing how diverse California is and that it has so much to offer
visitors. The Ranch was an amazing experience and we watched the sunset over the
countryside. In the evening we stayed in the centre of San Luis Obispo, which I absolutely loved; it was
such a lovely town with a lovely feel to it. We visited the Famers market, did some shopping and
had a few drinks at a local bar.

Day 5

Today was probably one of the most laid back days of the whole trip. We spent the morning on the road and drove to Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz is fantastic seaside town with a Funfair, great for adrenaline junkies. We boarded the Chardonnay sail boat for a relaxing afternoon on the water; I even got to drive the boat. The afternoon was spent on the beach watching the sunset with a live band and a bonfire, again a highlight of the trip for me as it was so beautiful. I even dipped my toes in the Pacific Ocean.

Day 6

Today was our last day in California but we had one more activity planned. We went zip lining; this was a great activity to end the trip. Mount Herman Adventures comes highly recommended and they have a fantastic course to offer guests. After lunch we drove to Oakland airport and flew back home to London.

Handy Tips for First Timers

⭐️ Ensure that you have an Esta visa, 6 months validity on your passport from your return date and 2
clear pages in your passport. This is actually a requirement for travel to anywhere in America. If
you are planning on driving ensure you have the correct documents to drive and hire the car.

⭐️ Plan what you want to do before your visit. If you are planning an action packed holiday I think
it’s important to plan ahead and pre-book all your tours and excursions. We can book these
alongside your travel plans.

⭐️ If you are doing a fly drive like I did make sure you have enough time, estimate how far each
destination is from the other so you do not miss out on time in your destination.

⭐️ If you are planning on staying in Los Angeles book a hiking excursion to the Hollywood sign.
When I return to LA I will ensure I pre-book this and hike all the way to the sign. Unfortunately we
did not get chance to on this trip.

⭐️ If you are planning a road trip around California and you like wine, ensure you visit a winery. They
have some of the best wine in the world.
