Your tour will include:

The Forbidden City Also known as the Palace Museum, the Forbidden City is recognised as the largest palace in the world. Its 9,900 rooms and halls are decorated in red and yellow conveying the absolute supremacy and wealth of its previous emperor residents. It was named 'The Forbidden City' as emperors were heavily guarded and ordinary people `forbidden¿ to enter this amazing city.

Tian'anmen Square Located in the centre of Beijing, the name translates as 'the Gate of Heavenly Peace'. The 122 acre city square has been used as an internationally recognised symbol since the birth of the People's Republic of China in 1949. Its greatness is reflected by its capacity to hold half a million people at once.

Summer Palace An outstanding example of the Chinese imperial past. Built in the Qing Dynasty in the 18th century, the Summer Palace is surrounded by beautiful royal gardens and thousands upon thousands of relics collected from its rich past. Containing over 3,000 rooms, the Summer Palace allows visitors an unrivalled view into the heart of its history.

The Temple of Heaven Located in the southern part of the city, the Temple of Heaven was built in the Ming Dynasty in the 15th century for the Emperor Yongle. Both the Emperor and his dissidents used the temple to pray to heaven for good harvests amongst other things. It is one of the largest temples in China, attracting a wealth of visitors to gaze at its magnificence.

The Great Wall of China Almost 4,000 miles long this is a must see for any traveller here. Originally a series of walls, the first emperor of China (who unified the country) decided to join them together taking 10 years to complete. We join the wall at Badaling - offering the best vantage points and where you can wonder at it¿s marvellous construction and history.

The Silk Market Your time to shop! Despite its name, the Silk Market has much more than just silk. The silk products here are cheap, and therefore popular, but there are also a lot of cashmere garments, down jackets, leather goods, shoes, hats, watches plus handicrafts and trinkets. The Silk Market is lined with dozens of stalls. One of the main things about the Silk Market is the fact that none of the prices are set, an ideal opportunity to practise your bartering skills!

Please note: Excursions may be subject to change without prior notice.

Laws & Local Customs We ask all holidaymakers to recognise and respect the local customs of the Chinese culture. Please exercise caution and common sense when entering specific excursion sites and follow the guide's advice. If unsure of anything, please ask any member of your hotel staff or an Airtours guides/reps who will be happy to clarify any situation.

Please note: You will be required to check-out of your hotel when departing for your trip to Beijing. It may be possible for the hotel to securely store your luggage until you return, however this is not guaranteed and maybe subject to a local charge. For more information regarding this, please see your customer service representative in resort.

Please note: Hainan Island is one of the highest risk areas for Malaria in China and protection is required. There are 3 different types of medication that can be taken but all of these can only be obtained via prescription and are not available over the counter. They have to be purchased under private prescription and the cost for a two week course is between £70 - £90.
